Mister Bang

Chae Man-sik, 1946 · Original title: 미스터 방

A few months after liberation in 1945, two men from the same hometown sit drinking beer in a grand house in Seoul. The host is Bang Sam-bok, once a farmhand and a street shoe-mender with a crooked nose, now called 'Mister Bang' and rich enough to keep servants. His guest, Mr. Baek, is an older man from a proud family who resents the upstart's bad manners but holds his tongue. How did Sam-bok rise so fast, and what does Baek want from him?
