Jane Eyre

Charlotte Brontë, 1847

Orphaned and unloved, Jane Eyre grows up determined to be treated as an equal, whatever her rank or looks. After a harsh childhood and years at a strict charity school, she becomes governess at the mysterious Thornfield Hall and meets its brooding master, Mr Rochester. Told by Jane herself, Charlotte Brontë's novel is a story of independence, conscience and love.
